Weekend in Cardiff

This weekend, Kayla and I took the train to Cardiff, Wales.  Only a two-hour train ride away and our hotel was a two-minute walk from the train station.  We stayed at the Cardiff Marriott and we had this amazing view of the city.  You could see all the way to the Cardiff Castle from our window!  It was so nice to sleep in big beds that were super comfortable, fall asleep to the TV, and use the gym.  Our first day there we relaxed in the room for a bit and then we went and explored the city.  We walked towards Cardiff Castle, but took the long way by going through all the amazing arcades.  The shopping is amazing, definitely some stores I could have gotten in trouble in.  The arcades themselves were gorgeous too!  Finally, we made it to the castle and had quite the history lesson.  Different parts of the castle, the buildings inside, and the wall range from Roman times to Victorian.  We got to walk through old WWII shelters in the walls of the castle and then climbed to the top of the castle itself.  We saw amazing views of the city and all the way to our hotel.  We then walked through the Castle apartments, which were decorated in such amazing and elaborate ways.

The next day it snowed in Cardiff, so it was a perfect day to wander around the national museum.  An exhibit on portraits of the Queen opened that day which was amazing to see.  There was also an entire room of French impressionists, which I loved!  The museum not only has art, but natural history, and the history of Cardiff.  We were able to see a lot of welsh gold jewelry, which is rare since no one is allowed to mine the gold anymore.  After the museum, we walked through the Cardiff Market and explored all the stalls they have.

On our final day in Cardiff, Kayla and I headed to the Millennium Stadium where there is a riverside farmers market.  While we were there, I had a lovely Nutella crepe!  We then walked down to the bay and saw the Millennium Center and the Norwegian Church.  It was such a beautiful day and the bay was so pretty.  We then had a very long lunch and took the train back to a very snowy London.
